EASA postpones the introduction of the STS (Standard Scenario)!
Commission Implementing Regulation 2021/1166 of 15 July 2021 amending Implementing Regulation (EU) 2019/947 has been published. It concerns the postponement of the date of application of standard scenarios for VLOS and BVLOS operations. There is also a change to the rules in the Open category.
STS from 2023
The rationale for this decision is that manufacturers will not bring to market drones that can meet all the harmonised requirements for C5 and C6 drones by 2.12.2021 (the original date of STS introduction). And we must not forget that only such drones will be certified for use in the European STS. Until then, Member States should be able to accept declarations from drone system operators based on national standard scenarios or their equivalent, in accordance with Article 5(5) of the said Implementing Regulation. Many European countries have already introduced such national standard scenarios before 2020 (Germany not).
The Implementing Regulation 2021/1166 therefore gives drone pilots the opportunity to submit declarations on national standard scenarios until 2 December 2023.

(1) In addition, the provisions of section UAS.OPEN.060(2)(g) and section UAS.SPEC.050(1)(l) of the Annex shall apply from 1 July 2022.
(2) During flight, the pilot of an unmanned aircraft shall:
when conducting night operations, ensure that a green flashing light is activated on the unmanned aircraft

(1) The pilot of an unmanned aircraft shall ensure that:
at least one flashing green light is installed on each individual unmanned aircraft to ensure the visibility of the unmanned aircraft at night
An active and valid remote identification system is in place.
