5 reasons why you should use the DJI Matrice 300 RTK for power line inspection.

30-03-2022

The fact that drones make the work of inspecting power lines easier, safer and more efficient is nothing new for companies in the energy supply industry. The benefits of using drones can save money, but also time. In some cases, tasks can be completed with less effort and manpower.

1. Uninterrupted operation during bad weather

For a company with specialised inspection missions where parts of the power grid cannot be shut down during the inspection, relying on a weatherproof UAV platform like the Matrice 300 RTK is a top priority. Now missions can be flown even in poor weather conditions such as rain or snow.

2. A new level of safety

There is no doubt that thanks to drone technology, the risky and costly process of climbing power lines to carry out inspections is a thing of the past. But that's just one of the problems inspectors face in their daily work. When it comes to inspecting power lines, the Matrice 300 RTK takes the concept of "safety" to a whole new level.

When inspecting with a drone, it is important to maintain a high level of technical requirements and concentration. The connection to the drone can be disrupted by magnetic fields and other interference, and at the very least can only reduce the flight distance. The upgraded OcuSync Enterprise and AES-256 encryption ensure a stable, reliable connection and secure data transmission. Operations can be flown even in high frequency areas with many sources of interference.

3. Longer flights, uninterrupted operation.

The intelligent, replaceable TB60 battery provides almost twice the flight time of the Matrice 200 series, meeting the requirement to provide the rotors with the necessary thrust for much longer and extending flight time.

On each mission, it is important to allow for as few return flights to the starting point as possible by replacing the batteries. This makes the flight more efficient and requires less effort. The new Zenmuse H20T brings a new drone standard to the market. This all-in-one device camera with thermal imaging, zoom, laser and RGB provides countless data analysis, acquisition and processing capabilities. This means that data can be collected via the various sensors during a flight without having to replace the camera. This is very helpful and time-saving for both the pilot and the operator: less weight means a longer flight.

4. Zenmuse H20T - thermal imaging and seamless integration

The Matrice 300 RTK is not for nothing the ideal tool for inspections of buildings, wind turbines or power lines. On the one hand, "thermal imaging" enables fast and precise localisation of damaged spots in photovoltaic systems. Since the individual wires are usually connected by press connections, faulty design or wear creates resistance and the component heats up. In this way, new connections or cables can be checked for manufacturing faults directly during initial commissioning and defective operation for the rest of the system can thus be avoided.

5. Quiet, unobtrusive operation

When integrating drones into conventional and everyday inspection methods, acceptance of operational noise is an aspect of use in addition to operational requirements and regulatory compliance. The Matrice 300 RTK is significantly quieter than its predecessor models. This much quieter operation means that it attracts less attention and also brings less disturbing noise into the environment.
